What have we learnt over the last six months?

No need to say what a strange year it has been for Oliver Myles Events. It is our tenth year of trading and we had so many fabulous events planned for 2020. It is said that if you love what you do you will never need to work another day in your life. That is certainly true for me and the team. We love running events, the planning, colour co-ordinated files, talking to suppliers and guests and being there on the day meeting people. To say we miss that is an understatement.

Someone asked me this week what I have learnt about our business over the last six months. I paused for a moment to reflect, thinking I should come up with something about how budgeting is key or the importance of robust contracts, but my answer was simple. The single biggest thing that I have learnt is that our clients are lovely. We spoke to many people to explain that their much anticipated event to celebrate a special occasion or the VIP day out that was gifted to them for a birthday or anniversary would not be going ahead this year. Of course, they were expecting the call, but that did not detract from the disappointment. Even with this news they responded with understanding and a willingness to work with us to find the right solution for them. In addition, they have asked how we are doing? Are the team there ok? Showing genuine concern for us. We have been blown away by your kindness.

What it has highlighted is the value of our relationships with our clients.  Most people we work with, both corporate and private clients, are repeat customers and we have few one-off bookings. Over the years we have built up a great deal of trust and respect on both sides, which has been vital as we worked through the challenges.

It is not just out clients though that are lovely. Our support team, the people at HJP Chartered, the Management at Audley House, the guys at Action Coach and Fix our Social who have all been there to offer practical advice and a listening ear when needed. Our suppliers too have been there to help and support wherever possible even though for the most part they have been facing their own challenges.

So, I just want to say a huge THANK YOU. We feel blessed to be surrounded by such nice people, to us it is not just ‘work’ and it is because of you that we feel this way.
