Choosing a date for your event might seem like a simple task, at first…
But when you factor in availability, holidays and major events (nobody wants to be sitting in 900-mile-backed-up traffic to get to your event because you planned it on the same day as the biggest sporting event of the century)!
And it’s even worse when you can’t get your deposit back after realising you booked on that day! Arrrrrrh – if there’s ever been a hair-ripping, face-palming, head-held-in-shame moment, it’s that.
So we’ve compiled some tips and tricks for choosing the perfect date for your event:
Day of the week
Let’s start simple… Mon – Wed may be cheaper and people may be more inclined to say yes. Friday feels like you are encroaching on their weekend – eek.
Holidays
Avoid school holidays or weeks with bank holidays in them. People are less likely to be available or less inclined to attend.
Major events
We said it at the top of this email – Avoid clashes with major events. For example, World Cup finals, big music events, festivals and elections. It’s not just that people are likely to be busy or prefer to go to an event they’ve waited months to see, but the traffic to and from the event will be a nightmare – think road closures, an influx of traffic to the major events blocking up the streets and back streets, no parking!
It’s always good to do a “major events check” when you have a selection of possible dates to rule out the ones that clash.
Plan, plan, plan
Planning your event day in advance and saving the date is a surefire way to successfully get the perfect date, even if you don’t know what it’s for yet.
Link to a special day
Here’s something you may not have considered – Is there something you could link your event to – like International Women’s Day? Or another national or international celebration day that fits your company like a glove. Choosing a day like this will do wonders for your theme and automatically boost the memorability of your event.
