Has Manchester United awoken? Is Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the chosen one? Come and see for yourself!

Manchester United hospitality through Oliver Myles

Who would have thought it? When Jose Mourinho was sacked by Manchester United in mid-December 2018, it was predicted by many fans that the remainder of season 2018/19 would be damage limitation and would be regarded as nothing more than a write-off.

However, fast forward to mid-January 2019 and there is renewed vigour and enthusiasm cascading around the Theatre of Dreams. Solskjaer, assisted by Mike Phelan (who occupied the same role under Manchester United royalty, Sir Alex Ferguson) has transformed the fortunes of this once mighty beast. Eight games, eight wins, including one against Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley gives a hint that the second half of the season could be laden with silverware for the Salford based club. They are still competing for the UEFA Champions League and the FA Cup. Furthermore, with the upturn in their results and the indifferent form of Tottenham, Chelsea and Arsenal, a position in the top 4 of the English Premier League is not beyond the realms of possibility.

Under Jose Mourinho, this – to many – was inconceivable earlier in the campaign.

Undoubtedly, Manchester United’s ground – Old Trafford – is regarded as one of the world’s great sports stadiums where success has been tasted regularly over the last 30 years. The writer of this post is a Liverpool FC fan, so you can appreciate how painful the upturn in form is.
