The Pop Musical Creation Experience
Breaking down barriers through shared knowledge of pop music that culminates in the creation of a brand- new jukebox musical! If you loved musicals like Mamma Mia, Rocket Man and We Will Rock You – this is for you!

Michael Gyngell, West End writer/director and founder of The Musical Theatre Factory, and has directed, among others – Dawn French, Christopher Biggins, Sting, Charles Dance, Lesley Garrett, Sir Roger Moore, Craig Revel Horwood, Greta Scaachi, Daniel Radcliffe, Joanna Lumley, Sir Bob Geldof, Denise Welch, Maureen Lipman, Cilla Black, Kylie Minogue and the Chuckle Brothers!
As a writer Michael specialises in creating jukebox musicals – using existing pop songs to help tell the story. He wrote the stage adaptation of Summer Holiday!, New York City Rhythm, Paradise City and the 80’s musical ‘Club Tropicana.
You will be taken through a few quick icebreaking warm up games by your host, all designed to get to know your musical tastes.
You’ll then be given a classic story – e.g. Cinderella /Romeo & Juliet and a choice of classic pop songs – you can then rename the characters and adjust the story to suit. It’s all about ideas.
You will be given a section of story to work on in small groups, placing the songs in the appropriate part – or if you want to, the most inappropriate part – of the story. We will carefully guide you through the rewriting/reworking of the lyrics before returning to the main group to give the epic an appropriate title! It all culminates in putting together a short-narrated performance of the piece. You can speak your new lyrics – or if you’re an extrovert – sing it with accompaniment!
