Today we awoke to the news that the RHS Chelsea Flower Show has been postponed to September this year.
Traditionally held in May the RHS Chelsea Flower has been running since 1913 and is a fixture of the English Social Calendar, attracting thousands of visitors each day. Towards the end of 2020 the RHS confirmed that the show would go ahead in May 2021 as usual, but with a hugely reduced capacity to allow for social distancing. It seems that they have now been forced to look again at that decision.
As the show in May would have been a much smaller affair then it seems to make sense to move to later in the year. With the number of deferred tickets from 2020 and the reduced numbers it was unlikely that there would many if any new tickets available. This way hopefully people will be able to enjoy the show, especially as they have now added the Sunday as an extra day.
The show has never been held in September and so there will be fresh opportunities for the garden designers. As the RHS have said ‘The RHS’s first ever September show will celebrate autumn horticulture, including Salvias, Asters, Dahlias, grasses and fruit and vegetables.’
We are currently contacting all our clients to discuss their options.
New dates for the show 21st – 26th September.
